"The Billions Behind Matt Stone and Trey Parker..."
It’s clear that Matt Stone and Trey Parker are raking in billions. But seriously, why do they let their fans suffer through so many ads? You kick off an episode and bam, three ads hit you right away, then comes the South Park intro, and guess what? More ads! And don’t even get me started on the three extra ad breaks during the show. This just can’t be real. What’s the reasoning behind this?!

"Absolutely Terrible Experience"
South Park is a nightmare; it turns every awful thing into a work of art. This show has completely messed up my life. South Park is just the worst!

"Absolutely Adore It"
I've been a supporter ever since Cartman was taken by those aliens. The humor is so on point, making the show feel fresh and up-to-date. I enjoy revisiting the classic episodes and thinking back on the issues they tackled.

"Awesome! Not just for watching episodes."
I really enjoy SouthParkStudios. It's super simple to catch South Park episodes right from my computer. My family has parental controls set up on our TVs due to the little kids running around. Instead of having to unblock and then remember to reblock TV-MA shows every time I want to check out South Park, streaming the episodes online is way easier. Watching episodes online with headphones also makes it nearly impossible for a little one to catch any of the foul language.

I’m also a fan of the merchandise available on the site. Some of the other fun little 'mini game' activities, like creating your own character and joining the forum communities, are a blast to engage with.

"Few Shows Have Stood the Test of Time Like South Park"
Since cable TV kicked off, not many shows have managed to launch a stellar pilot packed with potential for fresh entertainment and sharp satire, while also keeping up the quality week after week for a whopping 17 seasons. These days, it feels like cable is flooded with competition shows, so-called "reality" programs (we all know how "real" those are), cringy teen dramas, and everything from neglectful dads to parents juggling 20 kids. With this massive wave of new shows hitting the airwaves daily, it’s tough to find the gems worth your time, especially when it comes to cartoons. That’s why I’m thrilled that South Park continues to set the standard and keep the flame alive for adult humor (not the adult film kind). Starting as an animated short in 1992, The Spirit of Christmas, it quickly became one of the first viral hits online. Comedy Central struck gold by bringing on creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, turning a promising idea into a cultural phenomenon in America. With a unique and highly effective creative process, it’s no surprise that South Park has become a flagship show for Comedy Central, right alongside The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Set in Park County, Colorado, in the quirky town of South Park, the show revolves around four 4th graders: Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Kenny McCormick, and the infamous Eric Cartman. This straightforward backdrop serves as a perfect vehicle for political and social commentary, tackling complex issues and diverse personalities. Stan, the oldest, is just your typical "normal, average, American, mixed-up kid," who’s a bit shy around his girlfriend and, like many, is on a quest to find his place in the world (one of his adventures even leads him to become the next L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology). Kyle, his best buddy, is the only Jewish kid in his school and comes from the only Jewish family in South Park. He’s the moral compass of the group, often making the most sensible choices. Kenny, the underprivileged kid, used to meet his end in nearly every episode (only to wake up later as if nothing happened), and he’s always bundled up in a parka that muffles his speech. Trey Parker has mentioned that Kenny is inspired by a childhood friend who was also the poorest kid around and skipped school so often that others joked he had died. Then there’s Eric Cartman, the overweight, spoiled, bigoted, greedy, and manipulative character, loosely modeled after Archie Bunker from All in the Family. Kyle and Kenny often find themselves on the receiving end of Cartman’s prejudice and sharp humor. What really makes the characters shine is how these four seemingly different kids stick together and embark on hilarious escapades, while also allowing for the exploration of various societal themes. For instance, Cartman has taken on roles like Dog the Bounty Hunter, Adolf Hitler, an African pirate captain, and a leader of a ginger cult, all showcasing what can happen when the wrong person wields power. The show is cleverly structured so that Kyle often represents the moral viewpoint while Cartman embodies the opposite, leading to some fantastic dialogue and comedy.

As I mentioned earlier, South Park isn’t just known for its humor; it also boasts smart storylines. Their take on the 2008 global economic recession, intertwined with a biblical narrative about Jesus, was nothing short of brilliant. Kyle played Jesus, spreading the message of economic recovery, while Cartman took on the role of Judas, sneakily betraying Kyle for a video game. The episode wraps up with Kyle single-handedly paying off everyone’s debts, pulling them out of the recession. Trey Parker and Matt Stone aimed to highlight how many Americans treat the economy like a religion—something they don’t fully grasp but still consider vital. This clever episode, Margaritaville, earned the creators an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for shows under an hour. Another standout episode is the Mystery of the Urinal Deuce, which offered various perspectives on the events of 9/11 and delved into conspiracy theories (with Cartman claiming Kyle the Jew was behind the attacks). It presents evidence that makes a conspiracy seem plausible, only to flip the narrative by suggesting that all the sources backing a 9/11 conspiracy are government-controlled, or in other words, "the 9/11 conspiracy is a conspiracy."

At its core, South Park stands out because of its unique creation process. The writers give themselves just one week to whip up a finished episode for the network, often putting in 100-hour weeks and submitting the final cut to Comedy Central just hours before it airs. This unconventional approach, as the creators claim, adds a special flavor to the show, making it not only funnier but also more relevant. For example, the episode about Obama winning the presidency aired the very next day, with some of his lines taken straight from his acceptance speech given less than 24 hours earlier. The show has also made a significant impact on American culture, even spawning its own holiday, National Draw Muhammad Day, in support of artistic freedom and free speech, which arose after an episode featuring Muhammad in a bear costume led to death threats against the creators. In summary, if you’re into edgy plots, racy language, and sensitive topics tackled through satire and humor, South Park is definitely the place to be.
